Site Preparation Work Along Washington Boulevard is Complete

Between June 2005 and August 2005, contractors hired by the City of Fremont removed several trees along Washington Boulevard and completed efforts to demolish and remove eight vacant buildings acquired by the City to prepare the area near Washington Boulevard for major construction activities slated to begin in 2006. All properties requiring demolition were secured and vacated long before demolition began.

Historical Significance

Several of the buildings being demolished were built in the 1900s. Historical surveys for these buildings were performed and a couple of items of historical significance were salvaged and provided to the Mission Peak Heritage Foundation for public display.

Installation of the New Drainage Structures Along Washington Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway is Complete

In mid-August 2005, the City awarded the contract for construction of the Paseo Padre Parkway detour road embankment and the drainage facilities under the Washington Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway detour roads. The new drainage structures enclose portions of the existing Alameda County Flood Control open channels adjacent to Washington Boulevard at the corner of Driscoll Road in the channel between Timber Creek Terrace and Washington Boulevard, and also on the north side of Paseo Padre Parkway near the eastern railroad tracks. This work was completed in December of 2005.

Construction of the Embankment for the Paseo Padre Parkway Temporary Detour Road is Complete

At Paseo Padre Parkway, construction of the embankment for the future detour road between Shadowbrooke Common Road and Hancock Drive was completed in January 2006. The Washington Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway detour roads will be built when the main Grade Separation contract begins. Once the detour roads have been built, the final work on the drainage system outside the area of the detour roads will be completed.
