Utility Relocation
April 2006 – Early 2008

Starting in April 2006 for approximately two years, efforts began to relocate fiber optic, water, telephone, electrical, gas, and cable lines to make room for construction activities associated with the Washington Boulevard / Paseo Padre Parkway Grade Separation Project.

Most of the existing utilities under Paseo Padre Parkway between Shadowbrooke Common and Hancock Drive have been moved to the north side of Paseo Padre Parkway into an area that will become a temporary detour road during construction. Existing utilities under Washington Boulevard will be relocated to various surrounding areas as well as new locations within Washington Boulevard and Driscoll and Osgood Roads.

WHEN WILL THE WORK OCCUR?
Construction activities will occur primarily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday – Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Most utility relocations are expected to be complete by early 2008, pending weather and other unforeseen conditions. Ongoing progress updates on the utility relocations and locations of upcoming work will be posted on this website.

WILL THIS WORK CAUSE TRAFFIC DELAYS?
The majority of the work will be performed within areas outside of the city streets. However, where work within city streets and sidewalks is required, work will be performed during non-commute hours. Traffic control measures will be implemented when required to maintain vehicular and pedestrian access around the work areas.

During construction activities near Paseo Padre Parkway, the roadway will be intermittently closed for less than a minute to allow trucks to enter and exit from Paseo Padre Parkway. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic.

ACWD WATER LINE RELOCATION WORK CONTINUES THROUGH FEBRUARY 2008

The Alameda County Water District (ACWD) completed lowering its 48-inch water line to accommodate the new Union Pacific Railroad corridor and future BART extension. In summer 2007, ACWD began relocating the 24-inch water line in the existing Union Pacific Railroad corridor. This work is expected to be completed in February 2008. ACWD also will be installing a 12-inch water line in Washington Boulevard west of the active railroad tracks through the end of 2007.
