Washington Boulevard Paseo Padre Parkway
New Detour Roads Open for Washington Blvd and Osgood/Driscoll Roads
Between Friday, November 9, 2007 and Sunday, November 17, 2007, the contractor completed construction of the Washington Boulevard and Osgood/Driscoll Road detour roads and shifted traffic onto the new temporary roadways.
The work occurred in stages to allow motorists to travel through the area while construction of the detour roads was completed.
The new detour roads will be in place for approximately two years at which point traffic will be shifted onto the new roadways in stages. During this time drivers should remain vigilant of traffic flow along Washington Boulevard, near the railroad crossings, and around construction crews.
Note that while the new detour roads are in place over the next two years, the left turn from Timber Creek Terrace onto Driscoll Road is prohibited. Additionally, the left turn from Bruce Drive onto Washington Boulevard is permanently prohibited.
The Washington Boulevard detour road also includes a temporary railroad crossing to ensure the train crossing remains safe.

Paseo Padre Detour Road Opened on September 26, 2007
As part of the Grade Separation Project, the contractor shifted traffic onto the new temporary detour road for Paseo Padre Parkway located between Hancock Drive and Shadow Brooke Common on September 26, 2007. Please read below for more information.
How will traffic patterns change on Paseo Padre Parkway?
- The detour road has one lane of traffic in each direction as traffic studies have determined a single lane in each direction will adequately handle traffic in this location. However, additional delays will occur during train crossings.
- On August 27th, traffic on the existing Paseo Padre Parkway was reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction to prepare for the shift onto the new detour road.
- Traffic was shifted onto the new detour road on September 26th. The detour road is located north of the existing Paseo Padre Parkway.
- Although there will not be a median on the detour road, motorists will not be allowed to make a left turn from northbound Paseo Padre Parkway onto Shadow Brooke Common while the detour road is in place. Once the new Paseo Padre Parkway is opened, motorists will be able to make a left turn from Paseo Padre Parkway onto Shadow Brooke Common and make only right turns from Shadow Brooke Common onto Paseo Padre Parkway, as they currently do.
- At all times, access through the Paseo Padre Parkway corridor will remain open. Traffic signs will be placed to direct traffic through the area.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION ON PASEO PADRE PARKWAY
Hours: Construction activities around Paseo Padre Parkway will occur primarily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and if necessary, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Railroad Crossing: A new temporary railroad crossing has been constructed for the Paseo Padre Parkway detour road to ensure the train crossing remains safe. Throughout the project, drivers should remain vigilant of traffic flow along Paseo Padre Parkway and Washington Boulevard, near the railroad crossings, and around construction crews.
Duration: The temporary detour road will be in place for approximately two years at which point traffic will be shifted onto the new roadway.
WHAT’S NEXT ON PASEO PADRE PARKWAY
Once traffic has shifted over to the temporary detour road at Paseo Padre Parkway, the contractor will begin constructing the deep soil-cement walls around the new depressed Paseo Padre, driving piles for the railroad, BART, and pedestrian/ utility bridges as well as for the retaining walls on both sides of the underpass.
